Artists' Portraits Series I

As
a person obsessed and constantly reading art books, painting mostly in
oils & drawing every day, the ideas were many for a May 2009 show
at Dundarave Print Workshop & Gallery. With two previous solo shows
of linocut prints, I decided to explore freely and ended up doing 2
small drypoints – one from a model and one from a photograph. The
results were extremely exciting to me. From there I worked 12 hour days
(nights) at the printshop to produce 10 more larger etchings of artists
I admire and some very large monotypes for the show which became so
vivid in my mind. These ten etchings are together in this special
collection issued from Cotton Socks Press. The artists’ portraits
featured are:
Rodin, Camille Claudel, Oskar Kokoschka, Lucian Freud, Matisse, Monet, Giacometti, Odd Nerdrum, van Gogh, Picasso.
Artists’ Portraits series I is published October 2009 in an edition of only 10 portfolios each containing ten portrait etchings printed directly from the etched copper 6”x8” plates onto Somerset Textured paper, wrapped in a one of a kind monotype print portrait painted by Andrea and contained in a 12” x 16” slip case made specially for the collection. The etchings and text are by Andrea Taylor. The etchings are printed by Andrea and the text is printed by Rollin Milroy at Heavenly Monkey on paper made in Vancouver by Reg Lissel. Some titling is hand lettered by the artist in vermillion ink.
The portfolio is issued by Cotton Socks Press, Vancouver, BC.
